As one of five of Ghana’s only Female Vice Chancellors in Ghana, Professor Lydia Aziato’s career has been a series of ground-breaking accomplishments. In a series of firsts, she is also the first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ghana. Her appointment places her among the select leaders shaping the future of higher education in Ghana.
Prof. Aziato’s journey began at the Nursing and Midwifery College in Korle Bu, and her academic achievements have been nothing short of extraordinary. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, and also boasts over 21 years of experience in academia.
Before her role at UHAS, she was the first substantive Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Ghana.
She is also the founder of the Research Mentorship Alliance, an NGO that mentors young scientists in research skills, and is the president of the Chi Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, the second-largest nursing organization in the world. Prof. Aziato has over 70 publications, three books, and numerous awards to her credit and is one of Ghana’s foremost nurse scholars, and a leading voice in pain, breast cancer, and women’s health research.
