Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual global event in October dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and supporting those affected by breast cancer.
Nurse Redeemer Donkor made these remarks during an online webinar on “Breast Cancer Awareness and Women’s Health Training,” organized by SheRise Technology in collaboration with New Generation Nurses.
Miss Donkor underscored the elevated risk dense breast tissue poses for breast cancer development. She particularly noted the challenges faced by women with dense breasts in conducting reliable self-examinations, stressing the crucial need for professional medical guidance to ensure accurate screenings and early detection.”Therefore, regular professional screenings are crucial for early detection in this population”, she noted.
Co-Founder of New Generation Nurses Vincentia Accorlor in her presentation emphasized the multi-step diagnostic process for breast cancer in women. She cautioned against immediate alarm upon detecting breast lumps, stressing the importance of professional medical evaluation and diagnosis to ensure accurate assessment and appropriate action. She said” somebody not having a lump in their breast does not mean they cannot have cancer ,people can have fatty breasts or breasts without lumps but still have breast cancer”.
In an effort to debunk common misconceptions surrounding breast cancer, Miss Accorlor clarified that while rare, men are also susceptible to the disease. She further asserted that wearing bras does not contribute to breast cancer, dispelling a widely circulated yet unfounded belief. The New Generational Nurses Co-Founder urged everyone, particularly women, to get screened for breast cancer as often as they can..
